This design is inspired by the vibrant colours & textures of the souk in Marrakesh. The bag is knitted flat on two needles with a base worked in slip stitch stripes which creates a bright contrast to the bag sides worked i n intarsia, swiss darning and subtle 2 colour bead knitting. Felting gives the bag it’s structure whilst several embroidery techniques ~ chainstitch, bullion knots & Pekinese stitch ~ are used to create the rich textures on it’s front, back & sides.

Finished felted bag measures 17 cm high x 42 cm wide x 14 cm deep ( 6 ¾ inches high x 16 ½ inches wide x 5 ½ inches deep ) excluding handles

Materials Needed

Yarn: Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Jumperweight 115m / 25g ( 125 yards / ¾ oz ) – please note all yarns are used doubled throughout except yarn C - see below

A sh FC44 Brown 7 x 25g

B sh 77 Black 2 x 25g

*C sh 125 Orange 1 x 25g

D sh 1403 Red 2 x 25g

E sh1A Ecru 2 x 25g

Also Needed

*Twilleys Goldfingering 80% viscose 20% metalised polyester 100m per 25g (109 yards per ¾ oz ) sh Orange 1 x 25g *this yarn is used together with one end of yarn C

Size 6/0 beads as follows;

340 x Pink transparent rainbow beads

330 x Black opaque beads

16 x 15mm wide oval shell buttons

One pair of wide bag handles such as HBH004 Bag Handles available from www.fun2do.co.uk The bag was originally designed and made using Trendsetter Lucite Bag Handles in Brown / Black but these have since been discontinued

For bag base: Piece of heavyweight card 13 cm wide x 41 cm long

( 5 inches wide x 16 inches long )

Piece of lining fabric 30 cm wide x 50 cm long ( 11 ¾ inches wide x 19 ¾ inches long )

1 x blunt tipped needle for sewing up & 1 x sharp tipped needle for embroidery
